irst announced as “in development” last fall, Tamron has now revealed pricing and availability of the 70-180mm F/2.8 Di III VXD (Model A056) for Sony full-frame E-mount. The zoom will retail for $1,199 with an expected release date of May 14, though Tamron notes in its press release that, “the release date or the product supply schedule could be delayed,” due to COVID-19.
The zoom features a fast, constant maximum aperture of ƒ/2.8, and Tamron states that it is “the lightest and most compact in its class.” The lens has a minimum focusing distance of 33.5 inches and is compatible with Sony camera technologies such as Fast Hybrid AF and Eye AF.
The new lens is the third model in Tamron’s Di III series of lenses designed for Sony full-frame cameras, along with the 17-28mm F/2.8 Di III RXD and 28-75mm F/2.8 Di III RXD, both of which were introduced last year.
